Lifting Families Up
There is nothing like being part of something that lifts a family up–allowing them to experience blessings beyond their belief. Such an occasion unfolded at the Indiana State Fair during the Habitat for Humanity home build. This year Davis Homes brought in contractors and build supervisors to help construct two beautiful new homes with the help of volunteers and the future homeowners. If you are not familiar with how Habitat for Humanity works, they offer low-income first-time homebuyers the opportunity to realize the dream of owning and keeping a home through education and sweat-equity. Through donations, volunteers and partnerships with companies like Davis Homes, houses are either built from the ground up or rehabbed for the new owners who receive no-interest loans with monthly payments of $450.00 or less.
Brand New Homes for Two Deserving Families
For this project, two deserving families now have beautiful, brand-new homes. Alexis Hardin is a single mom and nursing student with two children; 12 year old Kenneth and nine year old Kaylee. It has been her dream to own her own home to fill with memories with her kids. She has also always dreamed of being able to give her children their own rooms! Now, that dream has come to pass and she couldn’t be more thankful for the blessing. Moneiyan Geebli & Malachi Smith have three children; Mawen is 18, Anton is 19 and Jemeain is 13. They also have three grandchildren. They have longed for the peace of mind of owning a home and taking pride in paying for something that is theirs. Now, their dreams are a reality.

The Dream of Home Ownership
After the build at the State Fairgrounds, both homes were moved to their designated lots in Indianapolis and the keys were turned over to the gracious new owners. For Davis Homes CEO Brad Davis, working with Habitat for Humanity falls in line with their core values to help people realize their dream of home ownership. He says it just feels right to pay it forward to the community he values so much. Habitat for Humanity wins with the help of Davis as well. They get the expertise and guidance from one of the areas premier home builders. It is a partnership both organizations hope to foster in the coming years. Ultimately, Habitat homeowners are the winners. Not only are they provided the skills to be a successful homeowner, they have a beautiful, safe new home that belongs to them paired with new found confidence that comes with people who believe in and support you. The smiles and tears of joy streaming down their faces when they receive their keys explains why so many people volunteer their time and skill. It brings a whole new meaning to building someone up, one frame at a time.
